Explosion, fire at Madison substation knocks out power to thousands

As of 10 p.m. Friday, MG&E reported no more outages.

After initially announced power had been restored around 4 p.m., officials said MG&E continued to experience intermittent power outages along the isthmus.

MG&E has crews on standby overnight. This was previously scheduled due to the forecasted extreme high temperatures.

From Madison FD:

‪UPDATE — 9:00 AM: The fire on East Main Street is knocked down. Investigation continuing. ‬No reports of injuries.

The Madison Fire Department is on scene of a significant fire just east of the capital. Please avoid the area, and use caution as you navigate detours. Several traffic lights are out of service in downtown Madison. We will update you on the situation as we are able.
