Christian school opening in former strip club site

MILWAUKEE (WKOW) — In a few weeks, a Christian school will have its first day of class at the site of an old Milwaukee-area strip club.

Ozaukee Christian School is renovating a strip mall in West Bend that used to house a club called Spearmint Rhino.

The dancing pole is gone, but the stage, the bar and the leopard-print rug are still there.

School officials say the conversion is unusual, but it’s an answer to their years-long search for their own building.

“God, in his sense of humor said ‘I’m going to take that which was meant for not necessarily great purposes in the life of a family and I’m going to instead transform it in to a place of life and light and hope and joy,” said school administrator Kris Austin.

Classes begin September 16 on the other end of the building, the side that used to be a daycare.

Eventually the school will expand and transform the strip club section.
