Madison man sentenced to 18 years for robbing cab companies, gas station

MADISON (WKOW) — A Madison man was sentenced today in federal court for robbing two taxi cab companies and a gas station.

Eric Clay, 28, Madison, got 18 years in federal prison for the trio of December 2018 robberies, one he committed while armed, according to a press release from Scott C. Blader, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin.

Clay pled guilty to the crimes in June.

Clay and two accomplices, according to Blader, robbed Union Cab, Green Cab and a BP Station in Sun Prairie.

During sentencing, Judge Peterson said that Clay is a dangerous person and a “lengthy prison sentence [was] warranted to protect the public.” U.S. Attorney Blader expressed concern for all of Clay’s victims and stressed that his office will continue to aggressively prosecute violent criminal offenders.
