Catholic priest found not guilty in child sexual assault case

A Jefferson County jury has found a Catholic priest not guilty for the sexual assault of an altar boy in 2006.

William Nolan, 66, was charged with five counts of child sexual assault in the trial that began Monday at the Jefferson County courthouse.

The judge polled each juror who confirmed the verdict.

The priest on trial in Jefferson County Court took the stand Thursday afternoon to testify in his defense.

William Nolan is facing five counts of child sexual assault in the trial that began Monday at the Jefferson County courthouse.

Thursday morning, the judge in the case dropped one of six felony accounts against a priest on trial for child sex assault.

In court Thursday, the judge dismissed the charge against William Nolan, citing insufficient probable cause.

The other five charges remain.

The trial could go to the jury as soon as Thursday.
