Dane County officials, tout funding to support sex trafficking survivors

Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul and Dane County officials are committing thousands of dollars to provide more support to survivors of sex trafficking.

Dane County Executive Joe Parisi announced that he’s including $80,000 in his 2020 budge to create a new position for Project Respect, a program that helps juvenile and adult survivors of trafficking. They help re-integrate those survivors with families and into society.

“First of all it’s critical because it allows them to address their needs not only to escape from trafficking but also the other challenges they’re facing,” said Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul.

The National Human Trafficking Hotline was alerted to 134 cases of human trafficking in Wisconsin in 2018, up from 94 instances in 2017.
