63-year-old man dead after officer-involved shooting in Madison

UPDATE (WKOW) — One person is dead following an officer-involved shooting on Madison’s west side Sunday night.

At 9:45 p.m., Madison police responded to 6500 block of Raymond Road for reports of a person outside firing a gun.

According to Chief Vic Wahl, officers arrived to find a 63-year-old man armed with a handgun. Chief Wahl says that man fired a shot at the officers, at which point an officer returned fire, hitting the man. Life-saving measures were performed on scene, and he was taken to the hospital, where he died.

No officers were hurt in the incident.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation will be handling the investigation.

This is the first officer-involved shooting in Madison in 2019.
