Richland Center police chief resigns following sexual assault charges

Richland Center’s police chief has resigned in the wake of criminal charges that he groped an employee at a bar and stole her tip money.

Lucas Clements resigned Monday, according to Mayor Paul Corcoran.

Clements is accused of inappropriately touching a female bartender and stealing some of her tip money in June.

During a court hearing Oct. 29, a judge ordered that Clements cannot, “enter any bars or have contact with the victim.”

The department put Clements on administrative leave in June after the Department of Justice started an investigation.

According to a criminal complaint filed on June 16, Clements arrived at a local restaurant and bar where a female bartender said she “believed he was drunk” with “red eyes and unusual speech.”
