Madison firefighter resigns from job amid drug trafficking charges

A Madison firefighter charged with cocaine trafficking resigned from the department just hours after he was charged.

Madison Fire Chief Steven Davis told the Police and Fire Commission Andrey Hansbro resigned his post Oct. 31, the day after charges were filed against him.

Hansbro faces charges of felony maintaining a drug trafficking place. He was released from the Dane County jail after his court hearing Oct. 30.

Hansbro was hired by the Madison Fire Department in October of 2014, seven years after he was convicted of misdemeanor drug possession. He had been on unpaid, personal leave from his $75,000 firefighting position since March 12.
