Madison family displaced after garage fire

MADISON (WKOW) -- A Madison family isn't able to stay at their home after a fire caused major damage Sunday night, according to the Madison Fire Department.

Authorities said they were called to the 1800 block of Elka Lane at 8:40 p.m.

The people who live there were watching the Packers game when they heard a noise. When they went to see what it was they saw the flames and smoke coming from the garage.

Everyone was able to get out of the home safely, including the family cat, before they called 911.

The fire was extinguished by Madison firefighters by 9 p.m.

Along with the vehicles and garage that were severely damaged, the kitchen and roof were also impacted. The rest of the home has smoke damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
