Columbia County overdose deaths drop more than 40 percent

Columbia County saw a reduction in the number of calls and deaths from overdoses in 2019 compared to the year previous.

"Although one death is too many, we have finally seen a decrease in the number of drug overdoses in Columbia County," Sheriff Roger Brandner said in a press release.

The sheriff's office reported 65 overdose calls and 10 death in 2019.

The year before the county received more than 104 calls and 18 deaths to drugs.

The sheriff attributed the significant decline to "years of tireless efforts" including community partnerships, education, aggressive enforcement and treatment.

"We wish to thank the community for your hard work, support, and collaborative efforts while we all continue making Columbia County a great place to live, visit, and do business in," Brandner said. "Together we can and are making a difference."
