State takes over Middleton High School nude photo investigation

The Wisconsin Department of Justice is taking over an investigation into the sharing of nude pictures of underage students by Middleton high schoolers.

News of DOJ's involvement came from a Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District spokesperson Thursday.

Earlier in the day, the district sent an email to parents encouraging anyone with information related to the investigation to contact the school resource officer.

The spokesperson said the Middleton Police Department would send out a new release with updated contact information.

Middleton police are investigating whether high school students are sharing nude pictures of other pupils under the age of 18.

Middleton police said they were notified of the possible picture sharing Tuesday, according to Police Captain Jeremy Geiszler.

"This is an ongoing investigation and no arrests have been made at this time," Geiszler wrote in a release.

Authorities encouraged anyone with information to contact the Middleton Police Department at (608) 829-9665.
