Semi full of groceries catches fire near Columbus

The Columbus Fire Department says no one was hurt when a semi caught fire Tuesday afternoon on U.S. 151.

But a fire department lieutenant says the semi tractor trailer was full of groceries and all of those products have been lost.

The southbound lanes of U.S. 151 remain closed near Columbus. Drivers should get off on Highway 73 and get back onto 151 at County Trunk Highway V.

COLUMBUS (WKOW) -- All southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 151 are closed near Columbus due to a vehicle fire.

The fire began around 2:40 p.m., according to a Wisconsin Department of Transportation alert.

The burning vehicle is a semi, the Columbia County dispatchers said. Any injuries from the fire are not expected to be serious.

The fire is in the 115 mile marker, just south of the Highway 73 exit.

DOT estimated the highway will remain closed for the next two hours.
