Madison hospitals begin screening visitors for COVID-19

All hospitals in Madison have begun screening visitors to their facilities for COVID-19.

Screenings typically include a temperature check and questionnaire.

All visitors enteringUnityPoint Health - Meriterwill be screened for COVID-19 symptoms, and they anticipate expanding that policy to clinics.

Screenings will include a short series of questions and a temperature reading, according to a news release.

Those who have symptoms will be stopped from entering, given a mask and may be referred for further evaluation at an appropriate location, like their primary care clinic or the emergency department.

Depending on screening results, staff may consult with the patient or visitor’s clinic before the patient proceeds to their appointment. For example, visitors who have symptoms might be sent home or to the emergency department.
