Fitchburg police investigate overnight stabbing, suspect arrested

FITCHBURG (WKOW) -- The Fitchburg Police Department responded to a stabbing early Tuesday morning.

At about 3:10 a.m., officers were called to the 2500 block of Post Road near Leopold Way, right across the street from Leopold Elementary School.

When authorities got there, one man was found with several non-life threatening stab wounds. He was able to provide police with a suspect description and direction of travel.

Officers located a suspect from the stabbing and a traffic stop was conducted.

Based on follow up interviews a Madison man was taken into custody.

Amari D. Johnson-Amos, of Madison, was arrested and tentatively charged with one count of battery and one count of second-degree recklessly endangering safety.

The investigation revealed the victim and Johnson-Amos got into a fight before Johnson-Amos armed himself and stabbed the victim.
