15-year-old arrested in connection with homicide of Fitchburg teen

Fitchburg police today arrested a 15-year-old in connection with the killing Aug. 25 of 17-year-old Shay Watson.

The teen was taken to the Dane County Jail and booked on charges related to the killing, according to a press release from Fitchburg police.

He is facing possible charges of first-degree intentional homicide and armed robbery.

Due to his age, the identity of this suspect is not being made public by police at this time.

Watson was found dead Aug. 25, 2019 at at a Fitchburg duplex he shared with his mother and brother. The medical examiner said Watson was fatally shot.

In addition to the arrest related to the homicide, narcotics, cash and a firearm were located in the residence, according to police.

A 40-year-old man inside the home was taken into custody for a violation of his extended supervision and booked into the Dane County Jail. He is not believed to have been involved with the homicide.

The search warrant was executed Thursday morning by the Dane County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response Team, along with personnel from Verona and Middleton Police Departments assisted members of the Fitchburg Police Department in the execution of a search warrant in the City of Verona.

Watson was entering his senior year at Verona Area High School where he played football last year. Principal Pam Hammen notified parents that counselors are available to help students cope with the loss.
