Dane County sees increase in average number of COVID-19 cases per day

DANE COUNTY (WKOW) -- Numbers from Public Health Madison & Dane County (PHMDC) show the average number of positive COVID-19 tests per day has doubled.

In the past four days, 174 people in the county have tested positive, which brings the seven-day case average to 35 cases per day.

PHMDC says the seven-day average from mid-June was 17 cases per day.

Health officials say they will release more information about the increase on Thursday.

People continue to use the community testing site at the Alliant Energy Center. The site had two record-setting days in a row on Monday (1,514 people tested) and Tuesday (2,172 people tested).

Nearly 27,000 people have been tested at the site since it opened. It will remain open until August 31.
