Hilldale Shopping Center closes early due to planned protests

The entirety of Hilldale Mall closed at 2:30 p.m. Friday in preparation for protests later in the afternoon.

The announcement of the closing came from the Metcalfe's Market Twitter account, which tweeted that the entire shopping center, including its grocery store, would close at 2:30 p.m.

Metcalfe's said it would reopen Saturday at 6 a.m.

Tim Metcalfe, the business' president told 27 News that the Madison police department advised the store to close due to a protest planned to take place at about 4 p.m.

The demonstration is planned to take place in front of the Apple Store, according to information Metcalfe shared.

"We expect the demonstration to be peaceful but want to err on the side of caution," Metcalfe said. "This group has done several other demonstrations around the city that were peaceful , and we are expecting this one to be as well."
