MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison police are investigating the latest in a rash of catalytic converter thefts.
One was cut off and stolen from a Toyota Prius parked on Knickerbocker Street Tuesday night.
Crime analysts from the Madison Police Department say there have been a dozen of these cases this month and 47 total this year.
From those cases, about 100 converters have been stolen.
Police say the Toyota Prius is a frequent target -- 16 of the 47 cases have involved a Prius made between 2004 and 2008.
Thieves often steal catalytic converters in order to sell them to scrapyards or recyclers.
