Acting Milwaukee police chief sworn in after former chief’s demotion

MILWAUKEE (WISN) -- Milwaukee's new acting police chief, Michael Brunson, was sworn in Friday.

Brunson says he has two main priorities: building relationships with the community and reducing violent crime.

"Obviously we have a lot of challenges ahead… a lot of challenges. We have a violent crime issue in this city," Brunson said after the swearing in ceremony. "When the city needs that leadership, then I'm here to move forward."

Milwaukee's Fire and Police Commission voted Thursday night to demote former chief Alfonso Morales. Members were critical of his handling of protests and lack of transparency.
