MADISON (WKOW) -- Kelda Roys has emerged the winner of the crowded Democratic primary field for Wisconsin's 26th District Senate seat.

Sen. Fred Risser, the longest-serving lawmaker in the nation’s history, retired at the end of the year, leaving the 26th Senate seat open for the first time in more than five decades.
Roys defeated a field including Aisha Moe, Amani Burris, Brian Benford, John Imes, Nada Elmikashfi and William Davis.
The primary winner will likely win the seat in November, because there are no Republican challengers.
The 26th Senate District covers the Isthmus, UW-Madison, Shorewood Hills and the western half of Madison.
