1 dead, 2 hospitalized after Sun Prairie crash

SUN PRAIRIE (WKOW) -- One person is dead and two others are in the hospital after a two-vehicle crash in Sun Prairie.

Dane county dispatchers said they took a call at about 3:35 p.m. reporting a vehicle crash.

The crash, involving two vehicles and two pedestrians, occurred near the intersection of Main Street and White Tail Drive on the city's east side, police said.

The crash killed one person whose identity is being withheld by authorities until they can notify the family.

Four ambulances, two from Sun Prairie, one from Deerfield/Cottage Grove and another from Madison were dispatched to the crash.

Two people are in the hospital, police said.

Officers could not yet say what led up to the crash, and an investigation is ongoing. A team from the Wisconsin State Patrol is at the scene, reconstructing the crash.

Staff from the Dane County Medical Examiner's team is also on scene, police said.

Sun Prairie police, firefighters and Dane County Sheriff's Office deputies also responded.

Sun Prairie police said that East Main Street is closed between Grove Street and Musket Ridge Drive. The road is likely to remain closed for a while, but officers could not give a definitive estimate.
