Former Mount Horeb High School coach arrested on sexual assault charge

MOUNT HOREB, Wis. (WKOW) — Police have arrested a former coach at Mount Horeb High School on a sexual assault charge.

David Chancellor was booked into the Dane County Jail Monday morning. He was booked on charges of stalking and fourth-degree sexual assault.

The Mount Horeb Police Department said the arrest stemmed from "communications and acts committed with a former athlete."

Police said the Mount Horeb Area School District cooperated fully with the investigation. District Superintendent Dr. Steve Salerno shared the following statement with 27 News: 

"The safety and well-being of every student are paramount. For many, this may be the first time an adult for whom we have cared is alleged to have engaged in hurtful behavior. A sense of innocence lost and emotional rawness is understandable."
