Community listening session to be held Thursday following police shooting

MADISON (WKOW) — In response to the deadly police shooting of a man, Common Council President Sabrina Madison will hold a listening session Thursday.

The session will be at the Madison Municipal Building at 5pm and is open to the public.

Meanwhile, Wednesday night's performance of Concerts on the Square was canceled after people took to the stage in protest of a deadly Madison police shooting.

The performance was scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. A 27 News team at the scene said many people in the crowd stuck around to see if the performance would eventually begin, but around 7:40 p.m., the president of the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra told the crowd that the event would be canceled.

The president said the orchestra stands with the Black community and that the organization hopes that things get better in Madison.

Madison Police Chief John Patterson said a man in his 30s died after being shot by a Madison police officer during a struggle at Baldwin and Williamson streets Wednesday afternoon.
