Brewers sign catcher Yasmani Grandal to one-year, $18.25 million deal

Milwaukee's big free agent signing this offseason came late Wednesday night, when the Brewers scooped up former Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal on a one-year, $18.25 contract.

The move was first reported by Ken Rosenthal of the MLB Network. According to Rosenthal, Grandal had declined a $17.9 million qualifying offer to stay with Los Angels, and also turned down a four-year deal with the New York Mets that reportedly could have reached $60 million.

While Grandal had a forgettable series in the NLCS against the Brewers for the Dodgers last year, he ranked near the top of most statistical categories for catchers, and as a switch hitter offers versatility in the Brewers' lineup.

Grandal hit 24 home runs in 2018, 20 of them as a lefty, and has hit 104 home runs combined in the last five seasons.
