Brewers Drop Opening Game Of Crucial Series Against Cardinals 3-1

Entering a very important three game series against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Milwaukee Brewers fell flat and dropped the first game by a score of 3-1.

Eric Lauer got the start for the Crew and right away in the first inning Paul Goldschmidt slugged a two run homer to give the Cardinals an early 2-0 lead. He settled in for the most part after that, but then allowed another home run in the 6th inning, this time to Nolan Arenado, and the Cardinals were up 3-0.

The Brewers were able to provide some sort of response in the 7th with a Luis Urias leadoff triple followed by an RBI single from Victor Caratini, who had three hits on the night.

Milwaukee had plenty of opportunities throughout the game, out-hitting the Cardinals 8-6, but were unable to push the runs across and make those hits count.

Brent Suter and Jason Alexander closed things out from the bullpen and kept the Cardinals at three runs, but the offense just couldn't get the job done against the flamethrowing Ryan Helsley.

The Brewers will need to get back on track in the final two games of the series, and they'll give the ball to reigning NL Cy Young winner Corbin Burnes on Saturday, facing Adam Wainwright of the Cardinals.
