Brewers fall 7-2 to Scherzer and the Mets

Max Scherzer returned from the IL on Monday night and he didn’t miss a beat. The Mets ace threw six perfect innings against the Brewers en route to a 7-2 win for New York.

It was a battle of aces as Corbin Burnes got the start for Milwaukee, but he didn’t have his best outing. He pitched just under six innings, allowed five earned runs, walked one batter, and struck out four Mets batters. The Mets led 5-0 after six innings.

The Mets pulled Scherzer after the sixth inning and the Brewers immediately broke up the perfect game with Christian Yelich’s double to left field. Later in the inning, Rowdy Tellez got the Brewers on the board with a two-run home run. It was the 32nd of the season for Tellez, who leads the team in that category.

The Mets tacked on two more in the eighth inning and won 7-2. The Brewers fell 2.5 games behind the Phillies in the Wild Card race with 15 games remaining in the season.

The Brewers will try to avoid losing their third game in a row on Tuesday night when they host the Mets at 6:40pm. Listen to the Realty Executives Baseball Postgame Show with Tim Allen after the game on 97.3 The Game.
