Despite Losing Miley, Brewers Beat Cardinals 3-2

A night after losing 18-1 to the St. Louis Cardinals, the Milwaukee Brewers refused to lose on Tuesday night. Even after losing their starting pitcher Wade Miley in the second inning, the Brewers held on for a 3-2 win over the Cardinals.

The Brewers struck first in the first inning when Willy Adames hit an RBI-double. That gave Milwaukee a 1-0 lead.

Nolan Arenado hit a home run in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at one. It was the fifth straight game with a home run for Arenado. Shortly after the home run, Miley left the game with what was later described as a left lat strain. He will undergo further testing in Milwaukee on Wednesday and will be placed on the injured list. Another blow to the already depleted starting rotation with Brandon Woodruff on the 60-Day injured list.

Despite Miley’s exit, the Brewers held the Cardinals to just two runs. After Brewers reliever Elvis Peguero pitched over an inning of scoreless baseball, Hoby Milner gave up a Brandon Donovan single that drove in Tommy Edman in the fourth inning to give St. Louis a 2-1 lead. That would be the last run the Cardinals would score.

That lead didn’t last long as Joey Wiemer tied the game with a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning. It was Wiemer’s fourth career home run.

Brian Anderson hit a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to give Milwaukee a 3-2 lead. Joel Payamps, Peter Strzelecki, and Devin Williams held St. Louis scoreless the rest of the way. The Brewers won 3-2. Listen to the postgame show below.

Milwaukee is 24-18. They play the rubber-match of the series in St. Louis on Wednesday night at 6:45. Listen to Tim Allen on The Baseball Postgame Show after the game on 97.3 The Game in Milwaukee and the iHeart Radio App.
