In a somewhat surprising move, the Green Bay Packers and running back Aaron Jones have come to terms on a near four-year contract worth up to $48 million. The deal reportedly includes a $13 million signing bonus which is guaranteed.
Word of the deal getting done came first from Jones’ own social media accounts on Sunday afternoon. On Monday, had no deal been struck between the two sides, Jones would have become an unrestricted free agent. Jones’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus indicated that he expected top make more money had he elected to not sign with Green Bay, but the pull to remain where he started his career was too much for Jones to leave.
The last two seasons, Jones has scored 30 touchdowns and had a pair of 1,000 yard rushing seasons. His easy demeanor and signature green and gold sombrero has helped the El Paso native become a fan favorite in Wisconsin.
Knowing that he took a deep discount to remain in Green Bay will surely only enhance that status.
