Madison schools to add two days, extra minutes for snow-day make-up

MADISON (WKOW) — The Madison Metropolitan School District will add two days for students and additional minutes to make up for days lost to weather.

The two school days for students are March 18, which had been schedule as a staff inservice day, and June 12, which now will be the last day of the school year,according to the school district.

The plan, including extra minutes, takes effect Monday, Feb. 25, 2019. (Please keep in mind that if we have any more cancelled school days due to weather we may need to add another school day for students.)

Elementary Schools

Students (except 4K*) will attend school Monday, March 18. This will be an early release day for elementary school students. (This was previously scheduled as a staff-only day.)

Students (including 4K) will attend school Wednesday, June 12. This will be a full day of school and the last day of school for students. (This was previously scheduled as a staff-only day.)

Beginning Monday, Feb. 25, elementary schools will have 11 minutes added to the end of the day. ***We have updated dismissal times at mmsd.org/dismissal.***

Badger Bus*: Reflecting the new dismissal time, bus schedules at the end of the day will run 11 minutes later. (Specialized and alternative transportation providers will also adjust their schedules.)

Middle and High Schools

Students will attend a full day of school Monday, March 18. This willnotbe an early release day for middle and high school students. (This was previously scheduled as a staff-only day.)

Students will attend school Wednesday, June 12. This will be a full day of school and the last day of school for students. (This was previously scheduled as a staff-only day.)

Beginning Monday, February 25, middle and high schools will start 2 minutes earlier and dismiss 5 minutes later than originally scheduled.

An important note about transportation: There is no change to the time that students catch Madison Metro busses in the morning.

Students will simply have less buffer time once at school before the first bell rings. At dismissal, the bus schedule will shift by 5 minutes. In other words, you can expect your student to get off the bus 5 minutes later than they currently do. (Specialized and alternative transportation providers will also adjust their schedules.)

*Spring Harbor Middle School: Reflecting the new dismissal time, Badger Bus schedules at the end of the day will run 7 minutes later for Spring Harbor students.

*Middle School MSCR after-school programs: Some middle school MSCR Afterschool programs will be impacted adjust transportation times will be adjusted, as needed. If your middle school child takes part in an MSCR Afterschool program, you can expect MSCR to reach out with more information soon.

Four-year-old kindergarten (4K)

4K students will not attend school Monday, March 18. (This was previously scheduled as an off day for 4K).

4K students will attend school Wednesday, June 12. (This was previously scheduled as a staff-only day.)

Beginning the week of February 25, the following changes will take effect for A.M. and P.M. 4K sessions:

A.M. 4K: School will dismiss 6 minutes later than the current dismissal time.

P.M. 4K: School will start 6 minutes later than the current start time, and school will dismiss 5 minutes later than the current dismissal time.

Specialized and alternative transportation providers will also adjust their schedules to reflect adjusted start or dismissal times.
