Former deputy sentenced for felony burglary

JEFFERSON COUNTY (WKOW) -- A former Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy was sentenced to five years in Wisconsin State Prison System for breaking into homes when family members were at funerals of loved ones.

Janelle Gericke, the former deputy, was sentenced Friday to two years in prison and three years extended supervision.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Gericke served in the department from February 2016 until she was fired July 2019.

Acriminal complaint filedin Jefferson County Circuit Court details seven times when investigators said Gericke either cased or broke into homes where she knew the homeowners would be away.

One home belonged to Lake Mills Capt. Chris Truman's family.

In November, Gericke pleaded guilty to the charges of a 2019 and 2020 burglary case.
