Fatal Blue River house fire

BLUE RIVER (WKOW) -- Tragedy struck the small village of Blue River early Saturday morning when a house firekilled two and injured several more.

Just hours later, aGoFundMehad raised more than $10,000 for the family. As of Saturday night, the total topped more than $17,000.

That support has been crucial, according to Anna Dalberg, whose sister, nieces and nephews lived in the house that burned.

"It's been pretty awesome that families are loving and supporting us," she said.

Though officials haven't named the victims of the fire, the family shared their names with 27 News.

Dalberg said her sister, Jenny Jo Moe, lived at the house with her husband, Gilbert, and her five children.

Her son Francis was able to escape through a window and is being treated at UW Hospital in Madison.

Dalberg said firefighters rescued Moe's daughter Barbara and son Fredrick. Barbara is hospitalized in Milwaukee, and Frederick died from his injuries.

"It's been tough," Dahlberg said. "Our family's grieving and emotional, but our family's a strong one. We'll get through it but it's gonna take a lot of time."

The devastation of the fire is also hitting close to home for those who know the family.

Doyle Cavender said his kids know several of Moe's children.

"They're great people and it's just devastating," he said. "I completely fell apart. The community is devastated. Nobody really knew this was gonna happen. It's just tragic."

Cavender, his wife and a few other people are working to set up a silent auction to raise more money for the family.

"I'm doing everything that I can do to help this family out," he said. "They're gonna need things to rebuild their lives."

He said the event will most likely happen in May.

A 33-year-old man also died in the fire. Dalgren said he was a family friend staying at the house.

She said the family is planning a candlelight vigil Friday at 6 p.m.

Investigators haven't said what caused the fire. The state fire marshal's office is investigating.
