FITCHBURG (WKOW) -- The Fitchburg Police Department is asking for the public's help identifying and locating a man who tried to rob a Dollar Tree Store.
Police were dispatched to the 3000 block of Fish Hatchery Road for a report of an armed robbery at the Dollar Tree Store just before 9 p.m. Friday.
Officers arrived at the scene and learned a suspect had entered the store, displayed a handgun, then demanded money from the cashier.
Police say the suspect was unable to obtain any money and ran off.
A Dane County K9 Deputy came to the scene and performed a track for the suspect that was unsuccessful.
Authorities describe the suspect as a man around 40 years old, 5'8'' to 5'10,'' approximately 175 lbs., wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark-colored jeans, a white bandana for a facemask and black gloves.
