Significant snow in the forecast this weekend

Our next system is set to move into the forecast area starting Saturday and exit as we end the weekend and January. In its wake, some of us may be left to shovel out another half a foot of snow.

Since this system is going to be coming out of the southwest, there is going to be a lot of moisture for this system to use, which means this round of snow will be on the heavy and wet side. While flurries/light snow may be seen falling during the early to mid afternoon hours on Saturday, the heaviest snow will fall during the evening and overnight hours going into Sunday, eventually wrapping up Sunday midday

.A winter storm warning or a winter weather advisory (purple shaded counties below). Both will start at 6 p.m. on Saturday and expire at 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Snow totals will once again be on the significant side. Counties farther south have the best chance for accumulating a half a foot of snow if not more while areas north of Lafayette, Green, Grant, Rock and Walworth counties have a better chance for accumulating up to a half a foot.

Winds gusting up to 25-35 miles per hour will not only cause localized higher amounts of snow but also make for difficult road travel. The toughest travel time will be between Saturday evening and Sunday mid morning.
