Winter Weather Advisory issued for all of S. WI due to incoming snow

MADISON (WKOW) - Southern Wisconsin has been downgraded from a Winter Storm Watch to a Winter Weather Advisory.

The advisory goes into effect 3 a.m. Thursday until Noon Friday. The whole viewing area is included in the advisory.

The system looks to first arrive as a mix precipitation, freezing rain especially in the western portions of the region. Mid-morning, the system will transition to strictly snow which will make up the bulk of it.

Snow will fall moderately to heavily late afternoon through the evening, which is when travel will be most difficult.

Snow becomes lighter at night, tapering before midnight but winds will increase from the northwest gusting up to 35 mph causing some drifting and blowing concerns, especially in rural communities.

Totals look to remain fairly consistent when compared to the first look of the projected numbers. As of right now, the most-likely outcome will be about 4-7" north, 3-6" central and 2-4" south.

FRIGID WEEKEND

Mostly cloudy to partly sunny Friday, breezy and cold with highs in the teens and sub-zero wind chills.

Overnight into early Saturday, actual temps fall below zero with wind chills in the minus teens.

Single digit highs Saturday afternoon with increasing clouds and a few flurries possible.

A few more flurries or a little light snow is possible Saturday night.

Sunday will be even colder with actual temps around -10 in the morning and wind chills around -20 to -30 and it'll be just as cold through at least next Tuesday.
