MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes announced Tuesday that he directed resources to tackle a recent string of stolen cars.
The vehicles were taken while people were warming up during this bitter cold.The police department said 8 vehicles were stolen Sundayand one Monday. In at least two of those cases, the vehicles were used in other robberies.
Chief Shon Barnes wants people to look out for their neighbors.
"My goal is to help restore our community as the best place to live in America. It's a lofty goal but together we can achieve it. but only together," said Barnes.
639 vehicles were stolen in 2020, according to Madison Police Department -- up 47 percent from 2019. Of those cases, 345 of them, the keys were left inside or readily accessible -- 115 were left running.
