MADISON (WKOW) -- Dane County is not planning on holding its coronavirus vaccine clinic Tuesday, as health officials wait on a shipment of doses this week.
A spokesperson for Public Health Madison & Dane County told 27 News the county's allocation for the week has been delayed.
The recent winter weather across the US last week has delayed deliveries, impacting all 50 states.ABC News is reportingthe weather has left a backlog of about 6 million doses of vaccine, according to White House officials.
Dane County health officials say this delay in shipment won't lead to any canceled or rescheduled appointments, because the county waits to schedule until the vaccine doses arrive.
UW Health is also expecting there could be some delays in vaccine arrival this week. Dr. Matt Anderson says the health system is planning internally and will contact patients as needed.
"We've been given a little bit of a window of when we can expect our shipment and we're trying to plan accordingly for that, but we'll let our patients know if there is going to be any impact," he said.
Meanwhile, UW istelling its patients to keep their options openand look for the vaccine anywhere you can find it.
The hospital system is getting about 2,500 doses a week, which is only half of appointments scheduled and even less than the capacity of the clinics, which could do up to 7,500 shots a week.
"Our vaccine supply itself has been somewhat steady the last couple of weeks, but it's far below what we would have needed it to be," said Dr. Anderson.
UW Health says so far it's vaccinated about 22,500 people, including both employees and patients.
