MADISON (WKOW) --The Madison Police Department arrested a man after allegedly drunk driving and hitting two Middleton Police cars near N Gammon Road and Fiskdale Circle early Sunday morning.

According to officials, two Middleton police officers were investigating an intoxicated driver and were parked on the side of the road with their emergency lights on.

Authorities reported that just before 2 a.m. a car heading southbound hit one of the squad cars and pushed it into the other.

Police said the vehicles involved were damaged. The Middleton officers had just arrested the intoxicated driver and a passenger was in the front squad at the time of the collision. That person was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation.

The Madison Police Department investigated the crash and arrested a 45-year-old man for multiple charges to include operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated with a passenger under 16 years old. They reported a 10-year-old child was in the suspected drunk driver's car during the crash.

"The 45 year old driver also had his wife in that vehicle, and again, that ten year old in the back of that vehicle," says Madison Police Spokesperson Tyler Grigg.

Grigg identifies the suspect as Dmitry Malin of Madison. Grigg says Malin's arrest was also on the tentative charge of misdemeanor child neglect.

Dane County Sheriff's records show Malin was released from the jail four hours after he was booked Sunday.

"There was significant damage to one squad and minimal damage to the other. The arrested subject was in the back seat of the front squad and was later evaluated for injury and released from a local hospital," says Middleton Police Spokesperson Capt. Jeremy Geiszler.

"This is yet another reminder of the dangers of driving impaired. These are the third and fourth marked Middleton squad cars that have been damaged by intoxicated drivers in just over one year. Luckily there have been no significant injuries in any of these crashes. The Middleton Police Department would like to remind drivers to drink responsibly and have a plan for a safe ride home. Having a plan can help prevent needless injuries and deaths on the road," Geiszler says.
