Activists call on DA to reopen Tony Robinson case

MADISON (WKOW) -- Activists held a candlelight vigil and demonstration Sunday evening to remember Tony Robinson.

Madison police officer Matt Kenny shot and killed Robinson inside a home on Williamson Street in March 2015.

The demonstration Sunday was outside Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne's house, pushing for him to reopen the investigation into Robinson's death. He determined at the time Kenny's use of force was justified.

Kenny was responding to reports that Robinson was jumping in front of cars. He said Robinson attacked him in the stairway of the house. Kenny shot the 19-year-old seven times.

Activists claim Kenny perjured himself when describing what happened that night. They say he incorrectly explained the layout of the house and should be fired.

In aninterview during his first dayas leader of MPD, Chief Shon Barnes told 27 News he was not planning to reopen the case unless new information was brought forward.

AChange.org petition to reopen the casehas gotten more than 1,300 signatures.
