MADISON (WKOW) -- Chief Shon Barnes says two people were shot and taken to the hospital Thursday night.
The chief did not have an update on the status of the shooting victims after they were transported from the scene.
Barnes says it all began with an argument between two groups that escalated into gunfire.
Police blocked off the Citgo station at the corner of Northport Drive and Troy Drive as investigators canvassed the scene.
Chief Barnes is asking for help to find the people involved in the shooting.
"We need the community to come together to help us put an end to this senseless violence that we're seeing in our community right now," Barnes said Thursday night.
The chief happened to be at a community meeting about how to stop violent crime when the shooting happened.
"It affects everyone in Madison. And so, the reason I was in a community meeting just prior to coming here is to help reassure our community, some of our community members want to know how they can partner with the police department, how they can support our efforts to reduce these types of instances," he said.
