High school teens killed in crash honored in roadside memorial

MIDDLETON (WKOW) -- Friends and family members of Simon Bilessi, Jack Miller and Evan Kratochwill honored the three teenaged boys in a roadside memorial on Monday. The three were killed in a car accident on Mineral Point Road in Middleton on Saturday night.

"They were all just great genuine guys," Aleide Achenbach, one of Kratochwill's close family friends, said. "Anyone who met them would see that as well."

Achenbach and her friend Olivia Lacour are juniors at Middleton High School and are close friends with Kratochwill's sister. They visited the roadside memorial on Monday.

"Everyone just all cares about you and misses you and we all know you're in a better place," Lacour said.

Dozens of mementos and flowers were placed along the roadside on Monday to honor the victims.

On Sunday night, Middleton High School held a remembrance ceremony to honor the three boys, and the school canceled its theme days for Homecoming.

Bilessi, who went to Madison's West High School, will be honored by that school as well. Bilessi's soccer coach told 27 News that the team will hold a remembrance ceremony before its game tomorrow at Madison College at 7 p.m.

The team also plans on paying tribute to Bilessi during the game's 13th minute, representing his soccer jersey number.

Dozens of loved ones visited the memorial on Mineral Point Road Monday. Visitors said they weren't surprised.

"I wasn't surprised at all to see this many kids show up," visitor Bella Mack said. "I knew how good of a person he was and how nice his heart was, along with the two other boys."

Achenbach said while it's heartwarming to see all of the support from the community, she'll be thinking of Kratochwill and his friends over the next few days — especially for how he treated her and his sister over the years.

"Thank you for being there for your sister because I know it means a lot to her," Achenbach said. "We're just all thankful that you were such a good big brother to her and kind of like a second big brother to everyone else."
