Kenosha County Sheriff: "Don't come to Kenosha"

KENOSHA (WKOW) -- The Kenosha County Sheriff is asking people not to come to the Kenosha County Courthouse as the jury deliberates in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial.

Protesters have demonstrated outside the courthouse over the past few days -- some in support of Rittenhouse and others calling for him to be convicted.

One confrontation on the courthouse steps on Wednesday led to the arrests of two people.

Sheriff David Beth says he recognizes peoples' right to protest, but he'd prefer they stay home and avoid what he calls "the circus."

"Just watch on TV. See what happens and just like what we're trying to do. And the people here... most of them are being very respectful. You just have a few clowns to the circus. That's about it," Bethtold WISN-TV.

In a joint statement released Tuesday, the Kenosha County Sheriff's Office and the Kenosha Police Department said they "have worked together and made coordinated efforts over the last year to improve response capabilities to large scale events."

The agencies also said they have no reason to close roads or enact curfews.
