Beloit shooting stems from dispute at gathering

BELOIT (WKOW) — The Rock County Sheriff's Office provided more insight into a shooting in Beloit Thursday night.

According to Captain Curtis Fell, there was a dispute at a gathering in a detached garage on the 1900 block of Porter Avenue that led to gunfire. Five people were injured and one was killed.

Fell said the victims' ages range from 17-23. All of them are from the Beloit area.

Police previously reportedthat three of the victims were located on scene and three at hospitals.

Three of the injured victims have been released from the hospital. Two victims are still receiving treatment for life-threatening injuries, with one receiving treatment at UW Hospital and another at a Rockford hospital.

"This is obviously a very complex and extensive investigation that is going to take several days if not weeks to complete," Fell said. "We do have one of the people in custody for other charges not related to this incident. We do not anticipate, right now, having any charges in the very near future regarding this."

Fell asks that anyone with information on this incident contact the Rock County Sheriff's Office at 608-757-7911 or the City of Beloit Police Department at 608-364-6800.
