JUNEAU (WKOW) -- Alliant Energy started the process of resuming natural gas service to the city of Juneau Thursday morning following a severe gas leak Wednesday.
According to a news release from Alliant spokesperson Morgan Hawk, crews will begin re-lighting pilot lights in Juneau at 11:00 a.m. Thursday. Crews already began in the Burnett and Minnesota Junction, Hawk said.
"In total, about 1,100 customers in the Juneau, Burnett and Minnesota Junction areas lost natural gas service. Crews worked overnight and have made necessary repairs in order to restore service," Hawk said in the release.
Alliant crews expect to reach and re-light all 1,100 homes by the end of the day Thursday. If residents aren't home when crews arrive, they will leave instructions for how they can re-light the pilot themselves.
