Road rages ends in shooting on Highway 12 between Middleton and Waunakee

Madison, WI: At approximately 7:48 pm, on Friday, July 29, 2022, Dane County Deputies were dispatched to the area of USH 12/STH 19 to the east, in the Town of Springfield for a victim that was struck by a bullet from another vehicle. The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The incident is believed to be road-rage related and through investigation, the suspect has been identified. The weapon used in the shooting was located and the public is not deemed to be in danger.

Dane County Sheriff’s Office Detectives are actively investigating this incident but ask for any witnesses with information to contact the Dane County Communications Center non-emergency line at (608) 255-2345, or the Dane County Sheriff’s Office Tips Line at (608) 284-6900. The incident may have stemmed from the area of USH 12/CTH K in the Town of Springfield and ended near USH 12/STH 19, to the east.

While Dane County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Detectives, and Supervisors were investigating the above shooting, a vehicle struck a Dane County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant and Sergeant, as well as their two squad cars. The supervisors were standing outside of their vehicles at the time they were struck, and they were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Wisconsin State Patrol is still investigating the incident and the driver of the vehicle was arrested for operating while intoxicated causing injury.
