LAFAYETTE COUNTY (WKOW) -- A child is dead after a truck hit an Amish buggy in Darlington Township Sunday night, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Reg Gill said in a release that the call came in around 7 p.m. for a crash between a truck and an Amish buggy on State Highway 81, just east of Burke Road.

The sheriff said a family of two parents and four children from Darlington were riding in an enclosed Amish buggy eastbound on State Highway 81 when a truck hit them from behind.

Several members of the family were thrown from the buggy and received serious injuries. One of the children died at the scene. The rest of the family was taken to the hospital. One of the other children was flown to the hospital by UW Medflight.

The driver of the truck was not hurt.

The horse pulling the buggy received minor injuries.
