Madison police accepting 'all' tips after teen killed in east side shooting

MADISON (WKOW) -- One teenager was killed and three more were hurt in a shooting on Madison's east side Tuesday night, according to Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes.

In a press conference Wednesday afternoon, Barnes said two 14-year-old boys showed up at the hospital with gunshot wounds. One was released, and the other is stable in serious condition.

A 14-year-old girl was grazed by a bullet and treated for her injuries.

Barnes said a 15-year-old girl was shot and later died at the hospital. Her mother identifies her as Kyesha Miller.

Kyesha's autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

Barnes said the shooting started when a car pulled up to Harmony Apartments and four people "immediately" got out of the car and began firing "indiscriminately."

Barnes said police are looking for five suspects, including the driver who stayed in the car. During the news conference, Barnes provided images of the suspects and their vehicle, which police believe is a Lexus SUV.

Barnes said officers have recovered nearly 50 shell casings, and crews are still processing the scene.

Multiple homes were hit in the shooting. Barnes said people were inside two of those homes.

Police have not arrested anyone, and officers continue to search the area for evidence and witnesses, Barnes said.

Investigators are working to determine if the teens were targeted and why this shooting happened.

Additional patrols will be outside East and La Follette high schools and Whitehorse Middle School as a "precautionary measure."

Barnes said detectives are following up on "all" leads. He said tips can be submitted by contacting Madison Area Crime Stoppers anonymously at 608-266-6014 or through p3tips.com.

This is the 10th homicide of the year, according to the Madison Police Department.
