MADISON (WKOW) — Two people are in jail after an altercation involving a knife outside a closed Madison restaurant Thursday night, according to the Madison Police Department.
Officers say they were called to The Old Fashioned on Pinckney Street around 10 p.m. for reports of a woman threatening someone with a knife.
They say the female suspect was threatening to kill a man with a kitchen knife and slashed the knife at him.
The Old Fashioned General Manager Jennifer Debolt said the restaurant was closed at the time of the incident, but said the threatened man gave an emergency dispatcher the restaurant's address for the police response.
Debolt said surveillance video shows officers focused on space outside the YWCA. A representative of the YWCA declined comment.
Madison Police Public Information Officer Stephanie Fryer said the woman waved a steak knife at the man but no one was hurt. Fryer said there have been other domestic incidents involving the two people.
Officers arrested the suspect, 33-year-old Shawnicia Youmas, on charges of Disorderly Conduct While Armed and Felony Bail Jumping.
Dane County Court records show Youmas was out on $3,000 bail in a traffic collision case involving the death of Wisconsin Public Television and Radio executive Gene Purcell. Authorities say Youmas was speeding and hit and killed Purcell on his motorcycle in 2021 as he was turning into his workplace's parking lot.
Youmas recently entered a guilty plea to the driving-homicide charge. But she's also pursuing a follow-up not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. The case remains open.
At a recent court hearing, records show Purcell's wife maintained Youmas has manipulated the court process to accomplish delays to a judgement. Records show Youmas has missed court hearings, been unable to be reached by court staff and changed attorneys.
In the Thursday knife incident, officers also say 32-year-old Ronald Grant was arrested on two counts of of Disorderly Conduct and Felony Bail Jumping. Court records show Grant and Youmas are the parents of a child together.
Police say the area and city cameras were checked for video of the confrontation, but anyone with information should call Madison Police at 608-255-2345.
