DEERFIELD, Wis. (WKOW) -- An driver accused of being impaired crashed into a Dane County deputy's squad car while he was responding to a deadly head-on crash in Deerfield over the weekend.
The sheriff's office reports the deputy was sitting in his vehicle with his emergency lights on when another vehicle crashed into his at a high rate of speed.
The deputy was taken to a hospital, and he's since been released to recover at home.
The driver of the other vehicle is believed to have been impaired, and the original crash was suspected to be caused by impairment and speed as well.
Sheriff Kalvin Barrett reminds the public that "impaired driving isn't a mistake; it's a choice."
"The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is asking drivers to make good choices to protect the lives of everyone on our roads," he said.
The public is required by law to move over and slow down for emergency vehicles.
