DANE COUNTY, Wis. (WKOW) -- Dane County deputies arrested a woman Tuesday suspected in a string of thefts, according to the Dane County Sheriff's Office.
Spokesperson Elise Schaffer said a deputy tried to stop someone driving a stolen moped at Fieldstone Lane and County CV in Burke around 4:45 a.m.
The deputy believed the driver was also a suspect in several recent thefts. Sheriff Kalvin Barrett said in a press conference that as businesses opened up Tuesday morning, multiple burglaries were reported in the area with a moped having been seen in the parking lots of those businesses.
Schaffer said the suspect then drove the moped into a wooded area and followed along the Dane County Regional Airport's fence line. She then ran away on foot.
A short time later, the deputy hear what they believed was a gunshot.
Law enforcement then ended the chase and set up a perimeter. Law enforcement began searching for the suspect on foot, and also used drones and a K-9 in the search.
Around 9 a.m., deputies found the suspect hiding under a small trailer near the intersection of CTH CV at Wheeler Rd.
Anyone who lives or owns a business near County Highway CV or Fieldstone Lane should check their video/doorbell cameras for any sightings of the suspect. Schaffer says she may have been with another person.
Anyone with information should contact the Dane County tip line at 608-284-6900.
