MADISON (WKOW) -- A Madison teen charged with stabbing another teen in the heart took a plea deal Thursday, according to Dane County court records.
Lanagsha Crawford, 17, pleaded guilty to felony first-degree reckless injury.
As a result of the plea, the court dropped the charge of attempted first-degree intentional homicide - use of a dangerous weapon.
Then 16-year-old Crawford was charged after stabbing a 14-year-old boy on Madison's north side.
A Madison detective testified a fight at Sherman Middle School led to the fight at Warner Park that involved adults and children. The detective said if the knife wound was three millimeters deeper, it would have killed the 14-year-old.
The court denied moving the case to juvenile court because there was probable cause Crawford tried to kill the 14-year-old.
Crawford is scheduled to appear for sentencing in March 2024.
Samantha Gentry, Crawford's aunt, was also charged in the stabbing. She is facing charges of contributing to the delinquency of a child - party to a crime and harboring or aiding a felon
A criminal complaint states Gentry drove the 16-year-old and her siblings to Warner Park. Then, as the fights broke up, she drove them all back to their mother's house.
Gentry is scheduled to appear for a plea hearing on Monday.
